Dead Space 2 Review
These days, it seems survival horror is a dying genre. The truly inspired survival horror releases are few and far between, with a select handful popping up every couple of years. The original Dead Space was one of those games, filled with a chilling, claustrophobic atmosphere, fantastic audio, and unique combat. Whereas other survival horror franchises - such as Resident Evil - gradually...

Fringe: "Reciprocity" Review
“Reciprocity” was a very compelling episode of Fringe that addressed some old, lingering questions, while bringing forth a slew of new ones. I really enjoyed this episode; while it started off a little slow, “Reciprocity” quickly picked up momentum in the second half. First off, it’s clear that the writers of Fringe pay attention to their fan base. I love the Walter finally called Alternate...

On Dreams and Storytelling
Every now and then, I like to shift away from the usual reviews when I have something different to share. This article is not a review of any sort, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about and would like to write about. The problem with writing more personal essays is that I never know where to place them on my website. But since this essay addresses the very nature of storytelling, I’ll...

Fringe: "The Firefly" Review
Fringe returns tonight (on its new Friday time-slot) with an interesting episode that raises many philosophical questions. There were a lot of interesting dynamics at play here; I was most excited to see the return of the Observer (and his fellow observers) - an underused character in Season 3. “The Firefly” adds some depth to the Observer, while answering a few questions and raising even...

Just Preordered my 3DS in Black!
Can’t wait until March! The price is a little high (at $249) and I wonder if the “casual crowd” will buy into it. Still, I think it looks amazing, and it’ll be worth the asking price. But I am beginning to wonder if Nintendo should have changed the design and left the “DS” name behind. That way the product would look altogether different, and not just a new,...

Resistance 2 Review
I’m not a huge fan of first-person shooters. Still, every now and again, I like to play through them. I decided to give the PS3 exclusive, Resistance 2 a try. I’d never played the original so I was definitely a little behind on the story. Still, Resistance 2 pulled me in quickly and didn’t let go until the credits rolled. You play as soldier, Nathan Hale, part of the final resistance...

Donkey Kong Country Returns Review
After the fantastic Metroid Prime Trilogy, Retro Studios returns to a classic Nintendo franchise with Donkey Kong Country Returns. Metroid and Donkey Kong couldn’t seem more different (except that they both come from Nintendo), yet Retro Studios manages to apply the same level of polish on this side-scrolling adventure for Wii. Donkey Kong Country Returns is all about one thing: gameplay....

Twin Peaks Review
It’s been a long two weeks, but I’ve finally finished watching the entirety of Twin Peaks - a captivating drama series that ran from 1990-1991. Only on air for two seasons, Twin Peaks started as a cultural hit, but was quickly cancelled due to dwindling ratings. Even so, Twin Peaks left an imprint on primetime drama that still remains today. I should address this up front: Twin Peaks has the...

999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors Review
After reading several favorable reviews, I decided to go against my gut and give 999 a try. It looked very strange but I ultimately wanted to give this game a shot. Fast forward one week, and let me just say, 999 took over my life for a short while. I had to keep playing, even when I wanted to stop… and in the end, it was worth every minute. I tend to think of 999 as an interactive novel....
